I had gone to see the movie "Dunkirk" with great anticipation and hope. I was not disappointed as this film by Christopher Nolan is simply a master piece. It runs for 2 hours with very little dialogue and that heightens the overall effect of the film. There is an air of realism about the film and that is its plus point. It rivals "The Longest Day" and the "Battle of the Bulge" as one of the greatest war films on World War II.

The film has actors but no stars and that in hindsight may be a plus point. The director who

is also the screen play writer and story teller has presented the movie in 3 distinct sections and they integrate together. He presents the air war, navy battle and the army in a wide panoramic canvas that covers human emotion and reality.

One question that is not answered is the role of Hitler and as to why he didn't unleash his panzers and allowed the BEP to escape. This

could have been elucidated, though a question is asked " why have the tanks stopped". Despite this minor flaw, the film is simply superb as it brings out the strictness of the soldiers as they line the beaches in the face of attacks by the Luftwaffe.

The air battle is the one that takes the cake and the old Spitfires are created and the best scene is when pilot short on as does not fly back but remains to fight the Germans air force and save the men on the beach. His gas finishes and he glides down on the beach to be taken POW.

The film has haunting music and that adds to the effect of this film. It has been a global hit and also in India, the masses have loved it.
