China is a dictatorship and only one party, namely the Communist party holds any position of power. Over and above the party is a personality cult where only one leader calls the shots. The recent twice in a decade Communist Party Congress has rubber-stamped the rise of Xi and included his name in the constitution of China, an honor earlier bestowed only on Mao and Deng. it means that for all practical purpose Xi will be president for life.
Something similar happened in Russia where the Russian Communist party "elected" Josef Stalin as the "great leader" and chairman of the Communist Party. Stalin
took power, banished or killed his opponents and ruled with an iron hand for 29 years till his demise in 1953. His regime did not survive 3 decades after his death as it imploded from inside, but he created a terrible military machine that scared the world.President Xi is now following
in the footsteps of Stalin. He will have unbridled power and he has already purged his opponents and now of the 5000 delegates who attended, not one opposed him. If somebody had,.he would have just vanished or sent into exile or worse sent to a "correction" camp a euphemism for a naked jail.Xi is now flexing his muscles and his 3-hour speech at the Congress has outlined that China will be a world power and will never give up its rights. This is ominous as China has a dispute with all its neighbors. A strong China pushing to dominate the world with its own definition of peace is a threat to the world order.
The regime of Stalin collapsed after him and one wonders if something similar can happen to China.
