The 21st century is different from the 18th and 19th century. In those years most of the western powers relied on their gunboats to carry forward their dreams. One can recollect that in 1896 the Royal Navy anchored 2 warships in the port of Zanzibar. The purpose of these two Gunboats was to overthrow the Sultan of Zanzibar. The Royal Navy warships opened an artillery fire on the sultan's palace. The bombardment lasted 38 minutes. At the culmination of the bombardment, the Sultan abdicated. it was a big victory of the Gunboat diplomacy. They had ensured that the power of great Britain
was omnipotent.There are tons of such incidents till the 20th century. During this period the Royal Navy and later the American Navy enforced the policy of their government by means of what has come to be known as gunboat diplomacy. In 1853 the US Navy appeared off the coast of Japan and forced the Japanese to have trade relations. This was the perod when the gun ruled. Times have changed but the western powers still feel that the old theory of making the enemy bow to you with the gun is still relevant.
Donald Trump the US President is still believing that he can have his way by using his navy Armada to threaten and cajol North Korea into submission. He has
ordered the US navy Strike Carrier Force to the Korean waters. The plan is to rain North Korea with missiles and bombs. He had tried this stunt when he ordered the bombing by rockets on Syria . He was supported by the United Kingdom. The UK is now berefit of power having lost the colonies and their empire. But they still dream of a say in world affairs . That is the reason it rides Piggy Back on the US.The chances of the gunboat diplomacy succeeding in the 21st century are very slim. Mostly in case North Korea is bombed the repercussions would be terrible. North Korean's have nuclear weapons and they have made it clear that their response would be merciless. The North could bomb the South with a nuclear device .The American should be aware that the South Korean capital Seoul is just said 38 Miles from the border and will be in the range of North Korean rocket forces. The result will be disastrous.
The western powers must realise the old days are over.It is better they forget about using the gunboat as an instrument of policy
