Indian Army Court Martial Brigadier For Extra-marital Love
Guns and stealing affection of a fellow officer's wife don't go together
A Brigadier commanding a front-line regiment facing China was disciplined under army act 1950 for having a clandestine love affair with a Lt Col wife.
The Army takes discipline as a byword and we have a section in the Army Act 1950( amended from the Articles of War 1891) that deals with an "act Prejudicial to Good Order and Discipline". An Indian Army Brigadier was recently Court Martialed under this section. The charge was stealing the affections of a fellow officers wife, in other words, the Brigadier was into a love affair with a Lt Cols wife.Such acts are not tolerated in the army and like the US and UK army, are dealt with a heavy hand.In the UK 9 sailors have just been dismissed for holding rave parties and 2 senior commanders disciplined for love affairs with junior officers. In the US General Hait has been discharged for carrying on a love affair with a reporter.
The army as reported by the Times of India has court-martialed a brigadier for having an extramarital love affair with Lt Col's wife.He was stripped of command and given a severe reprimand and his army career is over.
The matter came to light when the wife of the Brigadier who is a teacher in Delhi got a whiff of the affair and wrote a letter to the Army Chief General Rawat. This set the wheels rolling and the officer faced a Court of Inquiry which found him guilty and recommended disciplinary action.A Court Martial was convened and though the Lt Cols wife and the Brigadier denied the affair, yet when confronted with the evidence pleaded guilty. He has been given a severe reprimand and removed from command. The court-martial proceedings are now to be confirmed by the Army Commander. There is every likelihood that the punishment may be enhanced.
